Traditional digital access control systems are still controller by PCs with a maximum support of 8 electronic door locks. Any one faulty controller would result in all 8 of the door locks in the connection to be inoperable. On the other hand, with the embedded Linux operating system in the advanced electronic door locks (of ACTAtek), the units now are able to operate independently, and can provide all the features that were never imaginable before in the era of traditional access control applications!

Skivers and time-clock cheats beware. It is no longer enough to have a friend punch in and out on your behalf. Time clocks could soon be equipped with digital cameras, making it more difficult to duck out of work early and  unnotticed.

The technology comes from Hong Kong based ACTAtek, a biometrics company that hopes to sell its time clocks to companies with thousands of staff to manage.

Buyers will find a wider array of biometric access control products as more mainland China and Hong Kong SAR makers enter the line and expand production output. Prices are steady, but gradual decline is expected as competition heats up.
