1. How do i access ACTAtek via a web browser?

i. Direct connection
Connect a cross LAN cable (black one which came with the box) directly in between a PC/notebook and an ACTAtek. Make sure you turn off the DHCP of your PC/notebook and assign an IP for it, eg. 192.168.1.10. Open a web browser in your PC/notebook and type in the IP address of the ACTAtek, which by default is 192.168.1.100, and you will get the login screen.

ii. Connect in LAN
Connect a normal LAN cable (white one which came with the box) in between a PC/notebook and a hub. Open a web browser in your PC/notebook and type in the IP address of the ACTAtek, which by default is 192.168.1.100, and you will get the login screen.

2. We are looking at installing the device on a network behind a firewall. The payroll person is in another location and would like to access the unit remotely. Is it possible to establish a port assignment in the ACTAtek, to allow access to be routed directly to the unit through the firewall?

Yes, all ACTAtek devices are what we call Internet Appliances which means that they have an IP address and network connectivity. You just assign an sub-IP address to the device behind your firewall. You can then access the unit anywhere anytime in the world using a web-browser.

3. Is there encryption for the information that is send/received to ACTAtek terminal?

Yes, ACTAtek is fully encrypted with the latest SSL technologies and all communication between the device is secure and steady.

4. Is there a way to use a different port from port 80 that ACTAtek is at this moment using for TCP/IP connection?

It depends on the version of ACTAtek and it's respective firmware you have. The ACTAtek can support ALL different TCP/IP port connections including port 80.

5. With respect to LAN interruptions how do the system works without being affected by the LAN?

The units are capable of operating in stand-alone mode, even if the LAN connection is temporarily broken. If there is a temporary disconnection, ACTAtek is capable of storing a maximum of 10,000 records on its own and once the connection is back up, the data will be automatically refreshed with your backend software.

6. How do I connect two ACTAtek units in different locations with DSL / Internet connection?

You need to make sure that the main office has static IP and VPN Support. Once confirmed, setup the branch office as a VPN client so that the ACTAtek units at both locations can view one another in the same subnet.

It is recommended to use a router as a bridge to connect between the Internet and ACTAtek, so that the router can filter out the noise and is suitable for different ISPs. ACTAtek can be used directly with the Internet if no login is needed. That is, ACTAtek does not support PPPoE or broadband / DSL that needs login authentication. All you need to do is forward the web server port (80 for http and 443 for https or any that you have assigned if it's not those 2) of the router to the ACTAtek. Also, you can connect the ACTAtek to the Internet directly first to see if it works. Once completed, the IP, Subnet, Gateway need to be set according to the info provided by the ISP.

7. How do I connect two ACTAtek units in different locations with modem  (GSM modem)?

There are 2 methods to connect the HQ computer to the remote site by modem.

A.    Use traditional modem:
This solution is economical in price and you would need to connect each remote site with a traditional modem. Once connected in this configuration, HQ's PC can get the eventlog of each remote site.

Connection diagrams and configuration setup are available in support.hectrix.com.

B.    Use LAN modem:
The LAN modem cost about USD 200-300 each.  This solution can let the HQ's PC dial up to the remote site, and do everything the same as you are in the remote site using the HQ's PC.

8. Is there an IN/OUT toggle for the ACTAtek?

To set an automatic IN/OUT toggle, you need to go to the ACTAtek web interface and set it up from there. Or you can use the "<" or ">" on the ACTAtek keypad to set it manually.
