1. How many fingerprint image templates can ACTATek keep for each person?
ACTAtek stores upto a maximum of 7 fingerplate templates for each user, it can also take 3 or 5 templates depending on quality of finger.
2. Can the ACTAtek system support around 1000 employees each with 3 fingerprints? What is the maximum?
Yes, with several users models, the number of users that can be stored are 1,000 , 3,000 and 5,000 users for Fingerprint models and 1,000 , 3,000, 5,000, 7,000, 10,000 users for PIN and Smart card only models. For fingerprint models, each user stores upto 3/5/7 fingerprint templates acccordingly.
3. Can we use one unit of ACTAtek for both access control and time attendance ? If so, is there a way to separate the time attendance records from access log ( door opening) ?
Functionally, ACTAtek can be used for both access control and time attendance. However, there is no way to separate the time attendance records from access log. The best solution is to have one unit for access control and the other for time attendance. These units of ACTAtek can be networked in primary and secondary mode so that user registration does not need to be done more than once.
4. Can you use ACTAtek to control electronic doors?
Yes, you can connect the ACTAtek directly to an electronic door. The ACTAtek takes 12V supply from the electronic door source. Each door can be furnished with either one or two ACTAtek devices. Two ACTAtek devices are used when you need both IN/OUT control information separately.
5. Our staff works in shifted hours or irregular hours. How can we set the IN/OUT trigger to identify the person who is coming in or out of the office?
There are several ways to handle it: (a) Your staff can manually select IN or OUT using the "<" or ">" arrow toggle buttons on the keypad of the ACTAtek unit; (b) Set the "Auto IN/OUT" in the web interface, whereby the first transaction will be taken as IN, the second transaction as OUT, the third as IN, the fourth as OUT, and so forth. (c) Use more than one ACTAtek units to handle different shift duty. These units can be networked in primary and secondary mode so that user registration does not need to be done more than once.
6. How is the dynamic content in the web server displayed using static HTML pages?
We use built-in CGI language to handle the dynamic display.
7. Is it possible to modify the content and structure of data in the database inside the reader?
No. The content and structure can only be modified by Hectrix, not by the users.
8. What information does each transaction contain? What is approximate Length in bytes of each transactions stored in the reader?
User ID, Name, Department, Date, Time, Event, Terminal & View Image ( for units with built-in CMOS Camera).
9. In an access control application. Is it possible to change the access conditions dynamically?
Yes.The administrator can change the access rights of the members of each department at any time via the web browser.
10. How are the updates of firmware upgraded into the reader?
There are 2 ways to do so: Traditional method

Download the latest firmware from the support site.
Backup system data before doing firmware upgrade
Reboot the ACTAtek terminal.
Go to the ACTAtek login page using a web browser.
Go to the ACTAtek terminal and login as a Super Admin
Click "Firmware Upgrade"
Browse to the latest firmware you have just downloaded and hit OK.
Click on Upload
After the patch has uploaded to the unit, and click "Upgrade" to begin the upgrade process.
After the firmware upgrade has successfully completed, reboot the unit manually after 30 seconds after the message "Firmware Upgrade Successful" has appeared.
Please make sure that every ACTAtek terminal should be reboot after the firmware upgrade process.
Express Method: (Recommended)
Download the latest firmware and ACTAtekUpgrade from the support website.
Backup system data before doing firmware upgrade.
Reboot the ACTAtek terminal.
If you found your network is unstable, please connect a cross cable from ACTAtek to your PC.
Open the upgrade program (Start → All Programs → Hectrix → ACTAUpgrade)
Browse the "Firmware Location", enter the Login name and password using the super admin. info.
You can choose "Single upgrade" or "Multiple upgrade" depending on whicj type you prefer. The max. number of units it can upgrade at a time is 100 units. After selecting the upgrade mode, click "Upgrade".
"Result" and "Report" will show you the status of the upgraded process.
Please make sure every ACTAtek terminal upgraded is rebooted after firmware upgrade process has completed successfully.
11. Are they any development kits available for system integrators? If yes, what can be done using it?
The Development kits available is based on SOAP API, also included is an ACTAtek Agent and ACTAtek Server, which is available from our technical department, for more information on this, e-mail
12. Can we use our own software to communicate with ACTAtek? If so, what do you offer us as basis: DLL, ActiveX or SDK?
Yes, we provide the SDK with sample programs (with source code) to guide you through the development and communication process.
13. Does ACTAtek have any remote door controller?
The connection is simple and straight forward. You only need to connect a pair of wire from the ACTAtek to the remote door controller. And when someone is authorized, ACTAtek will send a special signal to the remote door controller to open the door.
Please note that the connection between the ACTAtek and the remote door controller is via RS485. And you cannot just short the two wires to open the door anymore.
14. What is the use of the various Trigger options?
The available Triggers on the ACTAtek include IN, OUT, F1-F40. You can set each of the F1-F30 options for various scheduling options. For instance, F1 can be named as Lunch Out and F2 can be named as Lunch In.So that trigger now has a meaning and can be used in the event log. The time for trigger is to setthe default display on the LCD screen during the specified time period.
15. What OS does the ACTAtek run?
Embedded Linux.
16. What intrusion detection methods are there? What happens when the chassis is opened?
There is a door sensor alarm built into the ACTAtek unit, so if anyone is found opening the unit without the proper authorization, the alarm will be triggered.
17. Can the device support SNMP communications?
Yes, we do support SNMP.
18. What kind of inputs are available (magnetic, RFID, Fingerprint...)?
We support fingerprint, Mifare & Legic as internal devices. Mifare, HID reader & bar code reader as external devices.
19. Where is the event log stored? How can I retrieve it?
The most recent 10k logs are permanently stored on the ACTAtek device, A flash memory storage called Disk-On-Chip (with fail-safe capability) will store all of these logs. Once the ACTAtek is online again, you can view the log through the web interface or connect it with the ACTAtek Agent/ Server. Both of which will store the log on your PC directly.
20. What is the material for the Optical Sensor and casing?
Our case is IP65 approved (dust and water proof) and the keys and enclosure are made of ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, which is a very hard plastic that is tough to break or damage.
The Optical scanner that is used in ACTAtek is a glass prism. It is possible to be scratched by sharp metal tools. However, the optical scanner has certain advantages over the traditional capacitive sensor, such as, difficult to be damaged by ESD and not easy to be scratched by fingertips as the thickness of the glass prism is 15mm.
21. Which kind of door locks do we support?
The Electrical Lock should be within +12VDC (1A or less). The following locks have been tested and approved by our engineer,
Gianni (Taiwan) EM lock: EM-350M Dropbolt: EB-180 Shear lock: GS-705N-30 with power supply: PSB2A-230/12
Yale Yale 9504 Electric Strike
